Our Data-Driven HVAC Optimization initiative at Langara College’s Building B combines real-time building-controls data, advanced analytics, and machine-learning models to cut energy waste, improve occupant comfort, and support the college’s ambitious Net-Zero 2030 target. The multidisciplinary project—run jointly by students in the Data Analytics program, Langara Facilities, and HVAC partner Prism Engineering—ups the ante on earlier descriptive audits: we are expanding sensor coverage to the whole building, feeding a cloud pipeline that delivers anomaly heat-maps, short-horizon load forecasts, and AI-driven set-point recommendations for five air-handling units (117 zones). Ultimately, the dashboards and predictive engines we build will guide technicians toward data-backed fixes, trim peak gas and electricity demand, and document verifiable greenhouse-gas reductions that dovetail with Vancouver’s Step-Code and BC’s post-secondary sustainability framework.
